Q: Are lessons done in a group or is it 1 on 1?

A: All lessons are 1 instructor to 1 student ratio. Unless the student has booked the “learn with a friend” package. Then it would be 1 instructor to 2 students who know each other. VKS doesn’t train students who don’t know each other together.
Group lessons are conducted as a class then split into smaller sub groups.

Q: What will I need to bring for my lesson?

A: For your lesson you will need to bring a pair of thick sweatpants and a thick long sleeve sweatshirt. This is to wear under your dry-suit. Fleece works well also. Thin Lycra is not sufficient. If you have a wetsuit 4/3 or thicker this will work. If your lesson is 2hrs and under a thinner wetsuit will do.

Q: What does VKS provide me with?

A: You will be provided w/ instructor, Personal water craft, insurance, dry-suit, booties, gloves, life vest, helmet, waist harness, kites, kiteboards, bar & lines and pump. complimentary water or pop will also be available. VKS uses top of the line gear!

Q: What happens if I have a lesson booked and there is no wind that day or if the wind stops during my lesson?

A: VKS always asks the student for a check in call the morning of your lesson, if the forecast doesn’t look promising the lesson is called off and rescheduled for a later date. If the wind dies during the lesson, it’s timed off and continued from where the lesson ended at a later date.

Q: What time do lessons start?

A: Lessons generally start at 10 am and 2 pm. Typically our beginner lessons or longer lessons start in the morning and our advanced lessons start in the afternoon. Although you can request your own start time!

Q: Is there any part of the lesson done in the classroom or is there a set curriculum to follow?

A: Absolutely not. The whole lesson is conducted on the Spit and in the water. We tailor the lesson to the students needs and abilities. Every student is unique and VKS understands that students will learn with different methods and at a different pace!

Q: How far is it from Vancouver to Squamish?

A: The drive takes about 1hr from the Lions gate bridge. “Depending on traffic” VKS recommends giving yourself 1.5 hrs from central Vancouver!

Q: Where and when does VKS operate?

A: VKS Conducts lessons any day that there’s wind! We are open 7 days a week from 10:00 am till the wind stops. All lessons are done at the Squamish Spit from May till Oct.

Q: Are there any other fees?

A: The SWS requires a $15 day fee or an annual membership for any user of the Spit. Even though you are with the kite School this is a separate fee and is processed separately. Please bring the appropriate payment for the SWS to your lesson.
